Hallelujah! I’ve just discovered TheKnitter.co (what rock have I been hiding under?!) and it’s quite rightly time to turn on the design spotlight…
The Knitter’s Nicole Leybourne is a self-taught New Zealand knitwear designer, whose site comprises of a selection of her made-to-order designs. Her designs incorporate intricate pattern techniques, like intarsia, cabling, and bobbles, to create loud, exciting, ready-to-wear pieces.
“Nicole’s designs are stitched together in a world where fairy dust and magic are real.”
Well, yes. clearly that must be the case because these are literally the knits that dreams are made of.
I’m currently crushing hard on The Ugly Jumper… and as it turns out, it isn’t very ugly at all!
The intarsia technique used in the design creates bold and striking stripey blocks of colour. That, teamed with its general oversized, chunky feel and bang-on-trend balloon sleeves makes The Ugly Jumper one cosy yet exciting winter wardrobe staple for years to come.
The Ugly Jumper is made of 100% sustainable merino wool. It’s made to one set size and comes in two different colour ways; you can choose between the dramatic green, pink and navy variant, or alternatively opt for the softer ivory, lilac and brown version. Each knit takes two to three weeks to make by hand and be sent in the post.
The cost is $431.20 for your own Ugly Jumper. But hey, they throw in free worldwide shipping!
Other personal faves include The Ugly Cardi, The Zip Zap for it’s mishmash of knitted techniques, The Tall Poppy, and Monsieur Bobbles! I’m absolutely in knitwear heaven… 😍
Follow TheKnitter on instagram. You know you want to.
I also discovered that The Knitter does not sell patterns, but has previously collaborated with Wool And The Gang to create two exclusive designs that you can create yourself!
