Hope Macaulay’s giant handmade knits are coziness personified and Now you can make-your-own

Cozy season is truly upon us, so it’s time to feel incredibly thankful that these ginormous chunky knits exist, courtesy of Northern Ireland’s very own Hope Macaulay.

Hope Macaulay is a contemporary luxury and bespoke fashion brand by fashion and textiles designer, Hope, based in Northern Ireland. Hope’s handmade-to-order, energetic and surreal garments have been featured in Vogue’s ‘6 New Names In Summer Knitwear To Obsess Over’ and ‘Best Street Style at London Fashion Week’, Elle Magazine and Vanity Fair, to name a few. Hope’s giant garments have also been seen on the likes of Halsey and Gigi Hadid.

Just by using a hand-knitting technique, Hope develops these unique and exuberant chunky knitwear pieces that look like they’ve been stitched up by an arty version of Dr Frankenstein. These mega colourful colossal knits are handmade from 100% jumbo merino wool, a high quality, natural, biodegrable and sustainable material. And gad, they look good, and are a great example of fashion as art. Particularly loving this full-length cardigan below, from a previous collection.

Hope Macaulay garments are produced by a small team of knitters and seamstresses – and also by Hope herself! And we very strongly believe in high quality, made-to-order, handmade garments, shopping small, and supporting women in the community, so if you’re looking for something to add to your Christmas wish list, you should look no further! Pieces range from £140 up.

Hope’s creations are not a representation of reality but a world in which you may find in your dreams, inspired by her fascination with the mind, distortion, reality and surrealism. Hope Macaulay garments are wearable pieces of art, that are bold and vivid experiences, each telling a dream-like story.

Whilst the internet is full of ‘make-your-own Hope Macaulay knit’ content, it’s not always the easiest to follow. So how do you make your own Hope Macaulay knit? Well, if you’re a dedicated maker and want to recreate these supersized stitches, thankfully now you can!

Hope has teamed up with the wonderful team at Wool And The Gang for its latest wooly collaboration, to bring some of Hope’s collection onto your very own knitting needles. You can view the full HOPE X WATG range here. Not only that, but two new colourways for Crazy Sexy Wool have also launched, inspired by Hope’s colourful combinations, in Wonderland Green and Paradise Peach.

My faves from the collection are the Pixie Patchwork Sweater, £134, the cute Breena Hat, £66, and finally the Aine Tank Top, £117. Ranging from easy knits to intermediate, there are lots of options to keep you busy. Time to get stitching.
